Featured Playground Supervisor Sydnee

By popular demand, we are continuing our new favorite email series, Meet Your Dog Handler! This issue features Sydnee, and it is my pleasure to allow her to introduce herself!

My name is Sydnee. I have been at LMDDC for a little over 2 years now. I work at the front desk as well as dog handle on occasion. As of right now I am a part time student at Montgomery County Community College and will be transferring to Temple soon to finish up my major in Biology. I will be joining the military in a couple of years once I graduate college. I have always had dogs and cats growing up. My first was an Akita named Jenna and my most recent dog, Balto, is a Brittany Spaniel, and spends a lot of time at LMDDC. Balto is a common resident and comes with me for my shifts, he makes friends with every dog he meets and never stops.

Who inspires you?
My mom she was a very strong independent woman who raised me as a single mother. She was part of the military and rose through the ranks and commanded a lot of respect during her time in the Air Force. She inspires me in all that I do and am the reason I am going into the medical field. She was diagnosed with cancer in the early 2000s and beat it but unfortunately relapsed. My career goal of being a military medical doctor stems from her and the respect I have for those who put on their uniforms every morning.

If you could be any animal, which would you be?
I would be a Giant Pangolin. They are cute and unique with their armor scaled bodies. They also have the cutest little walk.

Who is your favorite superhero?
Superman, I appreciate his idealism and how positive he tries to stay while fighting crime.  Though he is jaded from his struggles he does not let that affect his job as a superhero. Even if he didn’t have his superhuman abilities his secret identity Clark Kent would be fighting for the truth and justice through investigative reporting.

Where’s your favorite place in the world?
Cappadocia,Turkey: it is such a wonderful place with unique architecture when you walk down the streets it’s so busy and it feels like a party there is always music and lots of food. Turkey in general is amazing because it offers so much variety, it has nice beaches in the summer and great ski slopes in the winter, when you sit down in a restaurant its so casual and you feel like you’re visiting a friend’s house.

If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go?
I would go to Japan and see the Sakura Festival and Mt.Fuji and go to the deer park. I would also eat my way around Japan visiting the fish market and going to a lot of small homey restaurants.

What are you currently watching on Hulu?
Community, Donald Glover is my favorite. It is interesting to see him as an actor before he became Childish Gambino and was more widely recognized for his music.

What are you passionate about?
Dog nutrition, it’s something I got really interested in when I was figuring everything out before I got my pup. Obviously the goal of any pet parent is to give your pup the best and longest life and one way to do that is to feed them the best food so that everything works right internally. So knowing that got me really interested in what is in his food and now he eats better than most people. I will say I am more interested in what I feed my dog than what I feed myself.
